There is a senior citizen who lives in the Oak Grove area of Lexington who has been displaced from her home due to sewage back-up that occurred the night of the floods. There were 6-8" of sewer water on her floors. She is on a very low Social Security income and has no money to pay for repairs of her gutted out house. There is no running water. Walls, doors and floors need to be replaced as do kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities. Her house was handicapped accessible. She is staying with relatives in a house that has no handicapped facilities and it is extremely difficult, even unsafe, for her to manage. She would stay in a hotel if she had funds. Her insurance company denied her claim as did FEMA. Contractors haven't given her the written estimates she requested, slowing up her FEMA appeal. How can you help her? She needs handicap housing and a restored home. She's been able to negoatiate a reduced rate at a local hotel for the month, but this is still over $2000 for the month for her stay. She needs helps with her temporary room rent, plus help with covering the cost of her home repairs.
