My sister, Crystal, found out on December 1st 2024 that she had Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She spent the next 7 months fighting. She endured chemo treatments every two weeks, managed home injections and medications, while continuing to work and mother my nephews, supporting them through this new emotional trauma. They had already lost their grandpa, their home and all possessions in the Tubbs fire, been through their parents’ divorce, lost their grandmother, and then after having their lives completely turned upside down by the pandemic they then had to deal with their mother’s battle with cancer. But then the good news! The cancer was gone. Unfortunately, about 6 months later signs started to appear again, and now, not even a year after being told she was cancer free, it turns out that the cancer has returned. I know that she wouldn’t ask herself, so I am asking on her behalf. She needs financial help to see her through this next fight and to help her get out of the debt she is still paying off from the last fight. On top of these expenses she will have to go on disability, which will hopefully cover 60% of her regular pay. I know that she is hoping to work a few hours each week as well to be able to pay for her health insurance, but if the treatments are too much for her that may not be possible. The new chemotherapy is called ICE. It will be 2-4 treatment sessions, each session 4-5 days of in hospital stays in Oakland, with a month at home in between. Following the chemo she will require a stem cell transplant. At this point it’s unclear if this will be inpatient or outpatient. If it’s outpatient she may need to stay in a hotel in Palo Alto for up to 100 days to be close to the hospital. The goal stated on this fundraiser would cover the out-of-pocket copays from the last treatment and for the upcoming treatments, which alone would be an amazing help. When she is finally released home, the house will have to have a deep cleaning before she can return and she won’t be able to do the normal house cleaning until cleared by the doctors, probably for months afterwards. Any funds raised above the goal would go towards paying health insurance premiums so that she doesn’t have to worry about working while on disability, any hotel costs necessary after the stem cell transplant, cleaning services once she returns home, and meal delivery throughout all phases of treatment. So I ask, please, if you are able, give. Any amount will help. Also, please share and encourage others to give. Help my sister get through this so she and her boys can reclaim their lives and put this nightmare behind them. Thank you.
