Help my daughter Vanessa with her breast cancer! On July 4, 2024, my beloved daughter Vanessa, received life changing news about a lump that she had felt on her right breast a few weeks before. She was diagnosed with aggressive infiltrating invasive ductal cell carcinoma (DCIS). Because this cancer is receptive to hormones estrogen and progesterone the cancer grows quickly and spread faster than any other breast cancer. She is now faced with additional financial burdens which are not covered by the Insurance, and the added challenges to overcome this adversity. Vanessa is my only daughter- my Gemini-my butterfly, my brightest light. My reason for being. She just turned 38, basically just starting life, and now, I am mourning the loss of the Vanessa I knew before her cancer diagnosis- Vibrant- energetic- loud as thunder -and fierce in the face of adversity. She works in long term care working double shifts to meet the basic needs as a licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She is the charge nurse in the unit- taking care of the elderly- the most often forgotten invisible disregarded population- She uplifts their spirit, and her presence brings joy to those who know her. She is the type of nurse that when COVID hit hard and nurses were leaving in droves, despite her getting COVID like all of us did and survived, she felt the dire need to give back. Being fully bilingual, she volunteered in the New York Jacob Javitz convention center where COVID stricken patients were taken, because the hospitals were overcrowded, and she attended to the needy and the most vulnerable of patient-brokenhearted and scared, who would die alone because no one was allowed to visit. Now, she is facing the most difficult and challenging chapter of her life. Besides facing a total bodily transformation of herself when cancer strikes, she must deal with financial hardship, being unable to pay for her bills and some of the treatments associated with breast cancer. Her insurance does not cover for everything. She was told by the Doctor that she will not be able to work at all during her Chemotherapy, as she will be too weak and highly vulnerable to acquire every and any infection that she is exposed to. As a mother, I am beyond devastated, and despite my own grief I’ve found my inner strength to be there every step of the way, carrying her through, holding her hand- taking care of her and being the tower to lean on despite being crumbled inside. I vow to be her strength, her towel of tears- and I will be the shoulder to lean on- But I cannot go through this journey alone. I NEED YOU! We are almost about to start the first phase of Vanessa’s Treatment-Chemotherapy. Her treatment plan consists of getting Chemo once a week for the next three months to reduce the size of the tumors, as it’s growing rapidly. She will then undergo breast surgery to remove the remaining tumors and the sentinel lymph nodes. Afterwards, Vanessa will need a year of additional injections of Herceptin and Perjeta as part of the treatment plan. If you can only imagine walking in our shoes, what would you do? Today Vanessa may be a stranger to you. Perhaps tomorrow she will be a testimony, and the hope on someone’s life who will be just starting on their journey. I am humbled, and grateful for your generosity. Your support and your compassion towards the cause will allow Vanessa to get the resources needed during this challenging time of my daughter’s life. Please share her story. We are asking for your prayers and for monetary donations. Even a small contribution goes a long way.
