Hello everyone, my name is Allyson, but to my preschool students I'm Ms. Ally! Being an early education teacher has been my life calling, and about 2 years ago I achieved my dreams and started teaching at an early education center. I love spending my days with such vibrant, fearless children. On May 15th of this year, while at work, an ovarian cyst ruptured and I was rushed to the emergency room. On May 20th, I was back in the emergency room with another large cyst measuring 2cm. This was the beginning of missing work due to the multiple issues that would occur. After my second trip to the emergency room, I started to develop pain in my appendix region. A couple of weeks, three CT scans, and five sonograms later there were no signs of swelling in my appendix but showed that I had developed five more ovarian cysts, two of which are hemorrhagic. The whole time I felt that the specialists didn't take my unbearable pain seriously, a common issue women deal with. Finally, I spoke with my primary care physician and finally had someone who would listen to me and make the goal of me returning to the classroom a priority. He ran numerous labs but stated that "the water is still muddy, and is becoming more urgent." I started running a fever of 100 -103.4 from July 11th up until July 30th, due to three different infections that were found through multiple medical tests. Due to the malnutrition, I've been experiencing since my appetite has been nonexistent, I have started seeing black spots multiple times a day, only weigh 97lbs, have a consistent migraine and have chronic fatigue. This week, I finally can see a gastroenterologist recommended by my primary physician because he strongly believes that there is more going on in my intestines than we think, especially when extremely strong antibiotics soothe only some of the sharp pain. He believes that they will recommend both an endoscopy and a colonoscopy. As of now, I'm still unable to go back to work full-time. However, I'm allowed to visit my students when I don't have a fever. A few weeks ago I was surprised with the opportunity to read to my students at the local library. The parents have been very empathetic to my situation and were telling me how much their children have been missing my presence at school. Their kind words and actions have helped me stay motivated to be as fearless as my students. It is my top priority to get back to the classroom and to be fully back with my students. As mentioned above, I have been unable to teach since May 15th. Due to missing so much work and having insurance that isn't covered at most practices, I have been going into some serious debt and have also had a difficult time keeping up with my rent/bills. I understand that these last few years have been hard on a lot of us due to the pandemic, but I would sincerely appreciate any donations to help me keep up with the rent/bills and pay off some of my medical debts. Anything helps. Thank you so much for reading my story - stay fearless! In appreciation, Allyson Torske
