9 Year old Carmen, her 6 year old brother and her 12 year old sister were in a car accident on Sunday October the 18th. Carmen has remained hospitalized since this horrific incident and her mom has remained by her bedside since. She has had surgery on her head and on her stomach and this past monday has had rods placed in her spine due to a loose spine and some crushed bones, a timeline as to when she will be released is still unknown. Mom, who works daycare for the DC Government has exhausted all of her paid leave and is currently on unpaid FMLA, so while she is sleeping at her daughters bedside, rent still needs to be paid soon and child care and meals still need to be juggled for her 2 children that have been released from the hospital.Mom is grateful that her children escaped with their lives but she is also worried about taking so much time off without pay. As the holiday season approaches, I ask that you help this family in need, no mom should have to choose between being there to comfort her child and having to go to work to make ends meet, the focus should be on Carmen making a full recovery, not the stress of worrying about bills being paid.
