UPDATE 8/23/2024: It looks like Mike will be able to move home sooner than originally planned!! We learned today that as soon as everything (there are lots of working parts with this) is completed - more like end of September, Mike will be free to move home! My name is Becky and I have created this fundraiser on behalf of my brother, Mike. On April 5, 2024, Mike was diagnosed as having a Ischemic Stroke while in the Emergency Room in Alexandria, MN. Mike was transferred via ambulance that evening to the St. Cloud Hospital Neuroscience Stroke Unit. Mike was bed-ridden and unable to use his left arm or left leg at all. Mike would slowly regain strength and some use of his left side during his time in the Stroke Unit. On April 18, 2024, Mike was transferred to St. Cloud Hospital Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. During his time in Inpatient Rehab, Mike participated in three hours of intense Occupational, Physical and Speech Therapies daily. Mike was able to learn how to transfer himself with assistance from his bed to wheelchair; and how to stand and walk using a hemi walker. During his time in St. Cloud, Mike also learned that he suffers from left field neglect/visual cut. This means that Mike cannot always see on his left side. Occupational therapy worked with Mike to give him skills to be able to accommodate this new deficit. On May 11, 2024, Mike was transferred to Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Wadena to continue his rehabilitation journey. Mike continues to improve more and more every day. Mike has been able to learn how to navigate with his wheelchair and walk with his hemi walker for short distances. Mike and his rehab team are hoping that Mike will be ready to move back to his own home by the end of October. In order for Mike to move back to his home in Garfield, we need to make some updates in order to accommodate his wheelchair so he is able to get around independently. A wheelchair ramp will need to be added to the outside of his home. The bathroom will also need to be completely remodeled for Mike to be able to use it. We are asking for donations to help upgrade Mike’s home, help in purchasing a powered wheelchair, and also help to pay his monthly bills until he is able to get back to work!
