Hi, my name is Jesse Sunwolf. I’m a papa to two sweet boys. When their mother and I split up seven months ago, they moved to Washington and I find myself in an unexpected custody battle. Without a lawyer the boys are faced with the risk of never getting time with their papa unless I make the trips up north every month, which is not financially feasible for me, unfortunately. I’m a hard working, blue collar guy, devoted to a relationship with my children and there are a couple things standing in the way of that: insufficient funds and unfair/nonexistent rights for fathers. The times I have gone up to see them I spent upwards of $2,000 after flights, Airbnbs, a rental car and food for the stay. This leaves me with nothing to support myself legally to try and make sure my children have enough time with their father, as it is extremely important for their development to be influenced by and learn special skills from both parents. Staying in Airbnb’s has also proved to have its own set of disadvantages, including the boys not having their own things around them, the discomfort of being somewhere unfamiliar, and less time for connection building as there is much grocery shopping and preparing the space for us to be in while we all live out of our bags. Living in San Diego puts me in the challenging position of having only enough money for my own basic needs each month, as well as sending money to support the boys the only way I can across states, which is also why come summertime I will be moving to Oregon to be closer to them. My prayer is that the children have sufficient, quality time with both parents and both sides of the family, meaning they would come stay with me when it is our time to bond. I value the importance of a relationship with them and I need legal aid to secure that. You wouldn’t believe how few rights a father has and how often it is the case that the mother does not allow this. Thank you for reading and supporting this cause. It means everything to me. Blessings, Jesse
