My name is Angela DeShazer and I’m the artist of Sleepy Unicorn Pixel Art. It is my ultimate dream to be able to sell my art at RuPaul’s DragCon LA next year! I make fuse bead portraits of queens and have given away many to Rugirls. But for next year I’d really love to be able to sell my art and get my work into the hands of fans too, not just Rugirls. Please know that anything that you are able to donate to this dream of mine will be going towards the entirety of the booth. Including prints, stickers, and new business cards. Every little bit will help to get my art to Los Angeles to share with everyone. My story: I have narcolepsy with cataplexy and have very little energy to do anything besides make art and sleep. My cataplexy is the real debilitating factor. I can randomly fall into full body paralysis for about 15 min. Because of this I am not able leave my home without a caregiver and I don’t get out much. I have also survived Thyroid Cancer. This has resulted in a lifetime of loneliness and depression. My art is my way of getting out into the world. I may not be able to experience most things that people get to do, but my art gets to see the world and give happiness to people. I want to share the love I have for Drag with everyone I possibly can. Due to my condition I don’t go to shows or events anymore. The one and only thing I do is push myself to go to DragCon once a year. I get more hugs and love in one weekend than I get all year! I get to see souls of all ages happy and enjoying the beauty that Drag Race has brought to us all. It’s unbelievable what a community of people can give to one an other when all you want is for each other is to live their happiest and fullest authentic self. I’m so thankful that as an ally, I have been accepted, embraced and celebrated by the LGBTQIA+ community. All my love to each and every one of you willing to donate to help make my dream come true!
