Hi! My Name is Vilma and I am fundraising for my son, Santiago. I am a single mother of two wonderful boys. I am currently struggling with bills and getting things ready for my baby boy to finally come home. Santiago has been in the hospital and fighting for his life since day one. When I was pregnant, I had to be on bed rest at St. Joseph's for a week until they decided to do an emergency C-section at 25 weeks. Santiago was born prematurely at 25 weeks and weighed only 370 grams and measured only 9 inches long. There were many complications and he eventually was diagnosed with chronic lung disease. His lungs didn't develop properly and he was intubated for about 3 months. He was requiring the max amount of oxygen. He was also tested for vision and I was told he needed to get surgery ASAP or he would go blind. He was moved to Phoenix Children's Hospital to get eye surgery. He was only 3 months and 5 days old when he had his first surgery. Everything went well, and he wasn't intubated anymore. However, he was having spells where he would lock his lungs and would not let the oxygen in so they had to do Bagging (which is CPR with chest compressions). This was almost once a week. Santiago was 24 weeks old when they decided to do a Tracheotomy and Gastrostomy Tube. He has had several episodes where he needed to be resuscitated. My son is a fighter though and he continues to grow stronger! Santiago should be released to come home soon, but I have to make sure my house has all the proper/necessary wiring to support his medical equipment. I was given a few quotes and the cost for that is between $9,000-$12,000. My house is old and I want to make sure it is safe for my baby. The rest of the money will go towards my bills. I have been driving from Casa Grande to Phoenix every day for over a year to the hospital to spend time with Santiago. I've been on summer break from my job for a month and haven't had a paycheck. I do go back to work next week, but I decided to demote to a job with lower pay so I could have more time to spend with my baby. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
