Hi Friends, Katie here! Matt is five years into his journey into being his true self. We have his top surgery scheduled for August 14th! We are so very excited to finally get this gender affirming surgery over and done with! Matt started transitioning in middle school. It was detrimental on his mental health to be transitioning and going through puberty at the same time. Having to bind his chest is not only painful, but expensive as well. Now he's taking testosterone for the past year and going through puberty all over again. Going into his senior year of high school, it was his dream to not have to bind for that final year, to finally be free and feel like he can truly be himself. Thankfully we were able to arrange this before Matt's 17th birthday (just 11 days before!!!) so what a great birthday this is going to be. We expect the costs to be about $6000 and that is just the surgery itself. Dan and I will both have to take time off of work to be with Matt as he recuperates.
