Hi, my name is Yuu, and I'm fundraising for my younger sister Masumi. She is a 37 year old, loving and caring mother of 3 amazing kids aged 1 1/2, 3 and 6. 2.5 weeks ago, after experiencing trouble breathing and severe back pain, Masumi received the shocking diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer. Testing revealed that one quarter of her right lung is no longer functioning and that the cancer has spread to her brain and also the bones in her back. She continues to suffer from difficulty breathing and excruciating pain in her back as the cancer has caused several of her vertebrae to disintegrate. She is unable to hold her children, move freely or lift anything due to the pain and the need to prevent further spinal damage. Analysis of her blood has revealed that her specific lung cancer gene contains a EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) mutation indicating that she is a viable candidate for a relatively new (but extremely expensive) treatment. Typically with stage 4 lung cancer, her chances of survival are very low. However, If she is able to receive this new medication, her chance of surviving the next year increases to about 30% She has been able to remain strong in front of her children but inside is deeply frightened and devastated thinking about their future without her. Our entire family has been shaken to its core with this diagnosis and I ache with helplessness watching she and her husband try and absorb this sudden news and come to terms with what is happening. It is incredibly important for her to start attacking the cancer immediately which is why we find ourselves asking for your help. Any extra funds towards treatment and surgeries would give Masumi relief from her pain and the opportunity of additional time with her family to prepare for what lies ahead. Your donations would also help to ease their financial stress and provide an environment in which she can be free to enjoy her loved ones. We are deeply humbled and beyond grateful for any gift you can give. With heartfelt thanks, Yuu, Masumi & family
