Update: 10.26.2024 Since we last updated you, Mannie has continued to maintain his positive attitude and grateful spirit. However, Mannie was not able to be taken off the ventilator since the August update. Due to the slow progress, Mannie will be moved next week to Toledo for more intensive care and treatment. His mother has had a difficult time with maintaining balance between work and caring for him and would greatly appreciate any help you can provide - whether that be in sharing this LFEBridge campaign further, by donating, and even praying - any help would be appreciated as the family prepares for this transition and continued love and support of Mannie. Mannie is such a wonderful kid - his ultimate desire is to be able to talk with as many youth as possible about making good decisions, being obedient to your parents, and making positive plans for their future. He hopes to be able to purchase gifts this Christmas for children who are less fortunate - his ability to place others needs above his own while going through so much is a testament to his heart and God's love. We thank you so much for all you have done thus far. Update: 8.1.23 Mannie is a fighter!!!! The doctors are slowly weaning him off of the ventilator. Yesterday, he was off for 2 hours and today 4!!! Next week, he is scheduled to have his tracheotomy removed! He also is regaining his voice! I'm crying as I post this because only God gets the final say! Please continue to share and support, and most importantly, pray! It changes things! Hi, my name is Kelisa and I am fundraising on behalf of my cousin Martrel "Mannie" Hicks (all proceeds will go directly to him and his mother Keesha Hicks) to assist in this long battle of helping with hospital bills and support, as he begins a very long road to recovery. On July 3, 2024, while visiting his family, Mannie was walking with friends at 1:30 pm when someone decided to open fire on him and his friends firing 12 shots altogether, with three bullets hitting him - in the jaw, the neck, and the leg. His most serious injuries were those to his neck and jaw, which caused damage to his spine and vocal chord. Mannie was simply minding his business, not bothering anyone, and was on a side of town he does not visit. He did not deserve for any of this to happen. Mannie was lost several times at the scene, but God allowed him to continue to fight. Mannie remained hospitalized in his hometown until he was stable enough to be moved. As he continues his fight, he had to be transported 2.5 hours away from his family to receive the long-term care that he needs to continue to make progress. Mannie graduated from high school one month ago, and today, due to senseless gun violence, he is unsure if he will ever be able to breathe on his own again, digest food again, or be able to feel from his neck down again. He is a good kid and does not deserve what he is going through. We are so grateful as a family that he is fighting, but the hardship of this journey will be difficult, as his mother needs to be with him and recovery and support will be costly. He has undergone five surgeries to date and has many more surgeries to go. After his surgeries, he will start the long journey of rehabilitation care, which we were just informed would take anywhere from six months to one year before Mannie can come home. When Mannie arrived at the hospital, the doctors had all but given up on him. BUT by the grace of God, he is still here today. He is a miracle. Please help Mannie and his family with raising the funds to help with his continued healing. Thank you so much - with love and gratitude. ❤️
