My name is Diane, and I own the glamping resort Little Village Retreat. The last fifteen months have been an amazing and challenging adventure as we have brought dreams to life. Serving those who have stayed with us during that time has been the highlight of this journey, but there have been challenges to match. We lease the beautiful land the resort is on but have encountered ongoing legal issues with our landlord regarding the use of the water on the property that is legally obligated to us. We have incurred attorney fees totaling $7,000 during the last six months. These legal fees continue to accrue each day. We have made some progress at a resolution and have been currently granted rights to use the water temporarily. Due to the lost income and cost of legal fees, we plan to file a lawsuit to recover these costs but there is a required retainer fee of $5,000. I continue to pay the monthly payments toward these legal fees. As a new small business owner, this is especially challenging as our beautiful resort is still in its first year, and operating costs alone are demanding on our limited resources. We have made efforts to resolve this ongoing conflict peaceably. Our legal team has assured us that the choice of our landlords to remove and limit access to our water source is illegal. We have looked for creative ways to acquire water, such as hauling it in ourselves in water tanks, and were met with a blocked path yet again from our landlords, who contacted the county claiming that we were in breach of a law. This restricted us from hauling in potable water for our tank. We plan to continue providing a beautiful and tranquil place for our guests to escape the hustle and bustle of life and enjoy the peace our Little Village Retreat can offer. To do that, we need some help. My husband and six hard-working children have worked tirelessly by my side to make my dream of a glamping retreat come to life. If gratitude for the experience and the service we have received could be used to pay our legal fees, we would have an abundance! We are seeking a settlement for damages and lost income from the landlords. The donations received will cover these legal costs and damages, and lost income incurred. We are so thankful for our local and virtual community, who have supported us on this journey. Please consider donating to the cause or sharing our story so we can continue to bring life to our dear Little Village Retreat.
