Iam reaching out to you on behalf of my best friend Kelly Thumm, who so many people know and love. Kelly was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Breast Cancer on November 17th, 2014.  Her first surgery in December involved a right breast mastectomy with immediate reconstruction and implant.  Almost immediately, problems began with healing leaving open wounds which only got worse over time. Kelly began chemotherapy and infection set in. Following the infection, she needed to have two different implants removed and has been without an implant since June 5, 2015. Still nursing an open wound she began radiation. Once again, for the fifth time, the surgeon attempted to close the open wound but was unsuccessful leaving behind a silver dollar size opening exposing the chest wall behind. This is extremely painful as the chest wall does not build a protective barrier but is constantly raw causing burning pain.  Exhausted with local surgeons the search began for experts in the reconstruction field. With minimal healthy skin left on the breast area, Kelly has limited options for reconstructive surgery. With cancer treatment behind her, she is ready to enter the final phase of this battle. Kelly has chosen a reconstructive procedure called DIEP flap surgery at PRNA, a center for advanced reconstructive surgery in San Antonio TX.  This surgery will require at least three flights for Kelly and a caregiver to Texas as well has lodging and other costs not covered by insurance. Kelly is such a giving and caring person who has given so much of herself to others in their time of need.  Now we have an opportunity to give back to her. Let's rally around Kelly as she finishes this battle strong. Thank you so much for your love and support for Kelly.
