Hello, I’m Keith, I’m 51 years old and am desperately in need of specialised spinal surgery to treat my rare condition and prevent premature disability. I suffer from a rare condition called Tarlov Cyst Disease. Tarlov cysts are fluid filled cysts that form within the nerves that grow out from the spinal cord. The cysts put pressure on the surrounding nerve roots causing nerve damage, immense pain and disability. I have 4 cysts inside my lower spine bunched together on 4 separate nerves blocking my spinal canal (as shown in my MRI images). The largest is one inch (25mm) in size. Due to the nerve compression I’m in constant agonising pain. The pressure the cysts exert on my spinal fluid causes severe migraines, chronic fatigue, and memory issues. I can’t sit or stand for more than 5 minutes at a time and even a short walk leaves me exhausted. It has also caused chronic bowel and bladder problems. The cysts have eroded the surrounding bone to such an extent the area directly above the cysts is now eggshell thin. All this has left me unable to work for over 2 years and without treatment I’ll be unable to return to work and will eventually be permanently disabled. Due to the complex nature of my condition, only a few surgeons worldwide have the expertise and skills to successfully treat the cysts. Treatment for this rare condition is not available to me in the UK via the NHS. The leading surgeon in this field, Dr Feigenbaum, has offered to operate on me at one of Europe’s leading spinal units, Aimis Spine, in Cyprus this Autumn. Without urgent surgery, my condition will become permanent and the damage irreversible. I am a proud and somewhat private family man and find reaching out and sharing my condition very difficult. I would like to thank you for any donation you can make. Please share.
