Dear friends, family, and other kind-hearted individuals, It was like any other day. Kari's alarm went off at 5:45 AM, and she set off to prepare for her day like so many other mornings. Little did we know that it would end in a completely unexpected way. Fate would have us thrust into a totally new direction as on May 2, 2024, Kari was diagnosed with Invasive Lobular Carcinoma, a form of breast cancer. Our lives were suddenly shattered with the news. How could the most kind-hearted 46 year old woman, who maintained annual mammograms, practice meditation and yoga, strived to eat healthy, while an avid hiker have cancer? She did everything right. As the days and weeks went by, and the news set in, we had to accept the situation and prepare for this new struggle head-on. It remains a significant physical, mental and financial challenge. However, the fact that Kari is such a strong and positive-minded woman, she is determined to kick cancer's butt! We are incredibly grateful for the support system of friends and family that reinforces our ability to deal with this diagnosis. Their love, encouragement, and assistance have been invaluable during this difficult time. It is this we ask for help. Kari will undergo surgery on July 19, 2024, to remove the large mass. Following surgery, she will have radiation therapy and possibly chemotherapy to ensure all traces of cancer are eradicated from her body. This journey requires time and energy, and Kari will be out of work from her physical therapy job for at least 6-8 weeks (about 2 months) during the recovery period at a minimum. This will be a very difficult loss of income for us. Furthermore, there may be additional surgical procedures depending on several other medical factors not yet fully known and are still within the exploratory phase. As a couple who have always been able to provide for ourselves, our children, and others, accepting that we need financial assistance has been a difficult process. We have been working through a plan for paying monthly bills and insurance deductibles that are already rising, and it has become evident that we could use some help during this period. Our friends and family have been asking how they can contribute and show their support, so we decided to create this fundraiser to provide them with a way to help in a tangible way. Writing this plea is highly emotional, as it marks the first public announcement of Kari's diagnosis. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone in advance for any assistance you can provide. Even the smallest contribution can make a significant difference in lightening our financial burden and allowing us to focus on Kari's recovery. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, generosity, and support during this challenging time. Your contributions will not only provide financial relief but also serve as a reminder that we are not alone in this fight. Together, we can help Kari overcome breast cancer and emerge stronger than ever. With immense gratitude, Jamey
