Hi all my name is Janine & my best friend of over 45yrs is fighting cancer. I met Karen when I was 13. I had a horse and she lived across the road & boldly knocked on my door one day and asked if she could ride it. I said no, lol, but from that day on we became best friends for life. She ended up getting her own horse by the way Did I ever think I would be writing this, never. Did I ever want to have to write this, NEVER. Karen was first diagnosed with breast cancer 10 years ago & fought an amazing fight & was in remission for 5 years but the little #%*# C came back. Through drugs Karen has kept it at bay but at the end of last year it raised its ugly head again & has been giving her a run for her money & life ever since. Through her cancer battle Karen has been so courageous, positive, funny & bold, she truly is an inspiration to all. She has an awesome partner & 3 amazing children. They are a beautiful family. Unfortunately the last 12 rounds of chemo have not worked like they had hoped, but through some genetic testing they have found a trial drug that has had great results with the mutation she has. Its a brutal drug, she has been really sick with it and ended up in hospital but she’s a fighter our girl. They are now trying her on a lower dose plus an injection in the hope she can handle it better. Karen has already been off work for 6 months and because she has had chemo before is not eligible to be part of the trial. This new drug costs $1700 a month! As a family they have sacrificed so much already. My wish is for her to be able to keep taking this drug for as long as she needs to, to kick this cancers butt. We all know or have lost someone we love to this hideous disease. It is ruthless but our Karen is a fighter & by taking some pressure off financially, she can keep taking this drug & not have to worry about affording it. Karen would never ever ask for help herself but sometimes you need to step in and take the burden off those you love. So please, if you can help by donating or even just sharing this page, it would be so appreciated.
