Hey! My name is Kamiya Taylor (maiden name Talbert). I have been dealing with an aggressive Giant Cell tumor in my sacrum for 3 years. I discovered this tumor alone because of covid in 2024 and I was 8-9 weeks pregnant. This news was so shocking and scary, especially since I lost my mom to cancer suddenly in 2018. My mom was my best friend and main support for my family. Since her passing, it mostly has just been myself and my household family. I married my high school sweetheart and we have 3 kids together, Nerrad,Nyhanna, and Nadir. We are a vegan family and have been homeschooling since 2019. Even though I was diagnosed and pregnant I still was a very active mother and wife. I cooked 3 meals a day ( mostly from scratch), shopped, and did other activities with kids. I am very creative so I would bake sweets and decorate for the home parties, holidays, and family events I hosted. In the beginning of my cancer journey I was independent and strong enough to continue my pregnancy, although I was in so much pain. I spent 3 weeks in the hospital working on pain management. This hospital stay was the start of my financial crisis. The pain eventually became unbearable with the opiods and other medications I was prescribed. They weren’t enough for the sever sciatic nerve pain and weight from my pregnancy. So I gave birth while 7 months pregnant at Yale hospital via c-section. Baby Nadir had to go to the Nicu. He stayed in the Nicu for 2 months or so. After waking up from the c-section I couldn’t feel or move my left leg due to the tumor. This promoted another 3 week stay working with physical to get up, walk, and climb the stairs. We used our whole savings from parking fees, vegan meals for both my husband and myself, care for the kids being babysat, and our home bills. My husband had to quit working to be my full-time caregiver. We only had my disability as income. As the tumor progressed I became incontinent as well. Fast forward to February 2024. I was admitted to Yale again due to abnormal stomach pain. I no longer could walk or even sit in a wheelchair. Upon arrival I had to get a blood transfusion and nephrostomy tubes to drain my kidneys. The tumor had gotten bigger. I also endured 5 weeks of radiation which caused burns and other irritations. Easter weekend I was sent to the ICU for a septic UTI. It was so severe they didn’t think I was going to make it. The most scariest situation I’ve been through. They were able to get me back to a stable condition. After almost 6 months in the hospital and a lot of brainstorming from doctors and surgeons, I was finally offered a Cingulotomy brain surgery to stop the pain. My surgery was 7/26/2024. After surgery I will slowly ween off of the pain medications and work with physical therapy to get home in a wheelchair. I will also go to acute rehab to get in and out a wheelchair. I can't wait to get back home to my kids and continue to be supermom! I need assistance to survive the rest of my stay at Yale and to care for my family at home. When I am discharged I will need help paying for medical supplies, a nurse/ aide, an electric wheelchair/ scooter, an upgraded hospital bed, transportation to appointments, and other things that may be needed to aid a better way of life. The money will go directly to me to distribute as needed. Please keep me in your prayers. On behalf of myself and my family, we thank you for yours donations, kind words, and love.
