In August 2024, Joan, my mom, was diagnosed with lung cancer that metastasized. (It is chronic which means she will live with it for the rest of her life) Since then it’s been quite a journey. She has been surrounded by her husband Tom, her sisters, myself and a few close family friends. We couldn’t have made it this far without their prayers and support. However, the time has come that we need to share her story with everyone and ask for help. Even with insurance, the medical bills keep piling up as well as other medical equipment that is now needed. Also, in anticipation of future medical bills/needs. My mom is a private person and never asks for help so it took some convincing to get her to allow me to post this. She has been an absolute trooper through this whole thing. She has maintained a positive outlook and determination to keep moving forward. She has faced everything this illness has thrown at her, head on! She has even continued to work as much as she can. She has been at her job 44 years and didn’t want to just up and leave. A few weeks ago she started to have mobility issues that have progressed. She is currently in the hospital, they are preparing to send her to a rehab facility. There are two things she needs to do in order to be able to come home. She has to gain upper body strength to be able to self transfer from bed to wheelchair and back. The other thing is that the house has to be handicap accessible which currently it is not. Mom is determined to do what she needs to physically but installing a ramp and getting a wheelchair is very expensive. She will also need a hospital bed along with other unknown medical equipment to maintain independence. We don’t want this to be the thing stopping her from coming home. My mom is the kindest woman with the biggest heart, she doesn’t deserve any of what she is going through. She has been the best mom I could have ever asked for and the best grandmother to my son. It is now my turn to help by taking some of the weight off her shoulders. I want her only focus to be her health, not worrying about anything else. Any donation would help! We also ask you to please share this and have your friends/family share. The more people that see this the more chances we can get her the help she needs! This money will help bring her home and give her some of her independence back.
