Hi, my name is Mikayla I am lucky to call myself Jims Niece. The last few months have been rough for our family, through the discovery of our very loved Uncle Jim's diagnosis. In April 2024, Our aunt Kemala and Uncle Jim were wrapping up a cruise and visiting his aunt when Jim started to not feel well. When they returned to their home state of Washington. He was admitted for symptoms of a heart attack, and fluid making it hard to breathe. In this stent of hospital visits, they would discover Jim was in heart failure (Starting stage 3 C). Studies would tell us his heart was only working at 15% capacity, leading doctors to the conclusion he would need a left heart pump ( Left heart LVEDD ) and eventually a heart transplant. He would need open heart surgery. He was sent home while wearing a heart defibrillator around his chest 24/7 (not his favorite). Both the right and left heart were affected, the left side showing more severe complications. June 2024, While waiting for the insurance to approve the heart pump (LVEDD) they would discover the progression of symptoms, moving him to Stage 4 (D) and most severe stage of heart failure. During this time, Jim was hospitalized again and given pick line with meds to help symptoms. Relieved to be outside of 4 hospital walls, he spent some much-needed time with his sons, wife, family and friends. In July 2024, Insurance finally approved the LVEDD, and open heart surgery was scheduled. Jim had his open heart surgery on July 19th, 2024. Doctors were able to get the left heart pump in to help prolong his heart before needing eventually a heart transplant. Now In recovery, while his left heart is now pumping well they discovered his right heart is not doing so well. This will be an evolving scenario, that we are still seeking answers to and will update when we know more. However, the hospital visits thus far and more to come are prooving a financial hardship on Jim's family. As well as the in-home care he will be needing. In a time where doctors are telling you, you need little stress, it's ironic that you're faced with a pile of medical bills. Jim through all of this has not been able to work and family has stepped in voluntarily in a limited capacity (not all of us were born to paint) to help run his paint business. With Jim's 24/7 needed care, his wife Kemala has had to take some time from work while they access their new normal and get his in-home care set up. We are hoping family and friends can come together and rally for a man who loves with his whole heart, and would give the shirt off his own back. If you have met Jim, you know he loves his friends and family fiercely, he is a natural leader with some of the best dad chats you'll receive whether his kid or not, a die-hard Batman fan and our personal standup comedian. We know in this economy finances are tough, whatever your heart tells you to give, no matter the amount our family is eternally grateful. God bless.
