For those of you who do not know, in 2024 Jason Meyer was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. A disease that has a 30-40% adult survival rate at 5 years. Fighting this horrific disease hasn't been easy, and it’s a fight that Jason and his family have largely been fighting on their own. After 159 days in the hospital (inpatient and outpatient), with all of the treatment being at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania which is an hour and forty-five minutes away (each way) from the family’s home in Lititz, PA, Jason is making remarkable progress, but the progress has come at a tremendous physical and financial cost. 62 Days that Connie had to travel to/from, and at times stay in Philadelphia while Jason was hospitalized. The kids were prevented from seeing their dad during this time because of their ages and Covid restrictions. Connie often took the train to maximize her travel time to deal with insurance companies and billing departments for various providers while also making sure the couple’s four children (ages 8 thru 19) were taken care of. 97 days that Jason and Connie (not to mention a great group of volunteers) traveled to and from Philadelphia for treatment that wreaked havoc on Jason’s body leaving him physically devastated. His recovery often involved a fetal position in bed or on the couch, sometimes for days at a time. Nausea, physical pain, cancer fatigue, and digestive issues continue to this day. All the usual cancer indignities have been visited - loss of all his hair, down 54 pounds, extended periods where he couldn’t stand on his own two feet. There have been 33 blood transfusions, 12 platelet infusions and times where a walk around the block was too much to handle. Jason was brought to the emergency department several times with blood levels so low and an immunity system that basically didn’t function anymore. More than once the ER visits resulted in hospital admissions for extended stays to make sure Jason didn’t die. A reality his children weren’t completely unaware of. 159 + days where Jason was not able to fully participate in the lives of his wife and four amazing children. And for the most part, he has not been able to work steadily due to the unknown nature of the disease and the after-effects of treatment. But the fight continues… Jason has just under a year of regular treatment left where his system is suppressed on a daily basis and he has regular treatments. Jason and Connie are staying positive and living day to day, but this physical progress comes at a devastatingly tremendous financial cost that weighs heavy on this amazing family of six. Minimizing stress is key to the healing process, and this is where WE CAN HELP! We can help relieve the financial burden that is putting this family on the edge while Jason continues the fight. Jason, Connie, Mahayla, Bohdan, Dasia & Viviana are amazing people. If you are able, please consider making a donation to help them during this really difficult time. Help show Jason, Connie and the kids how much we love them and are here to support them!
