Many of you may already know Janel Boden. She is a bubbly and generous ambassador to the sport of axe throwing. She worked tirelessly at the Keystone Classic in March to keep scores all weekend. She was recognized there for her efforts at the end of that tournament which is a highlight in her throwing career and adult life. Until recently, she has remained active in competitions both at her home venue and out of state. Her absolute favorite thing in the world this past year has been to spend time meeting and getting to know everyone she can in the axe throwing community. What some of you may not know is that for the last year she has been battling Cholangiocarcinoma, an extremely rare and aggressive form of liver cancer. She had plans to compete in all the events at the Rust Belt Rumble 4 on July 15th, but had to be admitted to the hospital for severe abdominal pain. Scans showed that the cancer has spread. She just started chemotherapy but also needs two surgeries to relieve the pain that is sidelining her indefinitely. This month she took a turn for the worse and is now in the fight of her life. Her prognosis is not good and the weight of her condition has interrupted her ability to work and cover her bills which are currently getting close to $50,000. Getting well should be her sole focus, but no one should have to come out to insurmountable medical debt. It has been extremely stressful and crushing to her spirits. If anyone is able to contribute to her wellness fund, it will go toward past, present and future medical and living expenses. Thank you, Matt Bittenbender, Janel's close friend Note: This fundraiser is organized by Matt who wrote the note above and Richard who is helping out with the tech and logistics.
