This is difficult to write, but it's about my Mom, Jan Matthews Gamage and her continued Ovarian Cancer battle of over 30+ years. My Mom was diagnosed with advanced stage Ovarian Cancer at the age of 26. At that time there was little to nothing known about or how to treat this disease. Thus began her Ovarian Cancer Warrior status. On February 1, 2024 Mom was advised that she, after having already been through more than most could even begin to imagine, had developed a secondary form of Ovarian Cancer, Peritoneal Carcinomatosis, Stage 4. The diagnosis comes with a grim prognosis. Well in true Mom fashion she dove right into new research on how to handle this new form of cancer. With all the alternative ways she has been fighting this cancer the results show her approach is working. Sadly, most of these methods are not covered by insurance, costing large amounts of money each month. Her Oncologist was left suprised at how well she has been doing and encouraged her to keep doing whatever it was she was doing. It's now been a month due to financial constraints since she could continue in the approach that was helping. Mom is a private person when it comes to her Ovarian Cancer, choosing rather to help others with their journey. Offering guidance and support for them and their families along the way. Mom started a cancer support group in Orlando, FL which grew quickly in size ultimately allowing hundreds of women to receive the care, support and guidance they needed during their cancer treatment and journey. She has always been involved in her community and the assistance of others. Most recently helping many Veterans in the filing to receive their Veterans Benefits. A process that is quite challenging for most. For those that know her there never is an animal that she is not willing to help. From the orphaned bunnies that needed to be bottle fed, to the kittens found under a dumpster that also needed bottle fed every two hours for a month, to the numerous lost or abandoned dogs, cats and wildlife, she never hesitates to help whenever and wherever is needed. So I'm starting this fund on her behalf because I know she never would. After giving so much to her community and others time and time again, I ask that we now support her in her time of need. As the saying goes, It takes a village. Please let us all be her village. Thank you for your support and prayers.
