Hudson is a kind, precocious 6 six-year-old boy who was born with Oculo-auriculo-vertebral spectrum, presenting in the form of Grade 3 Microtia Atresia, mild hemifacial microsomia, and a fused vertebrae in his back. Microtia Atresia is a condition where the ear does not fully form during development, and he was born with single-sided deafness. Hudson began expressing a strong desire for ear reconstruction just over a year ago, and over the past 12 months we have been battling with insurance and the medical system to get our son's reconstructive surgery approved. We are delighted that next month in August Hudson will be undergoing Microtia Repair surgery and at the same time will have a Cochlear Osia Implant placed. This hearing aid system will mean he will no longer have to wear his current (and expired) hearing aid on a soft band anymore, which will mean far better access to sound and comfort. His repaired ear will help improve his self-confidence, allow him to easily wear glasses, and improve his quality of life. In order to have this complicated and unique surgery done we are traveling to LA and will be staying there for almost three weeks for him to undergo surgery and be closely monitored by his surgeon during early recovery. Funds raised will help pay for our time in LA while we are working less, help pay for the out of pocket expenses related to the surgery center, and towards any leftover balance billing. We have already invested well over 25k towards his surgery and insurance and it is going to happen no matter what, but if anyone would like to help alleviate some of the stress for our family, we would be forever grateful.
