SCARLETT HAS HER CHAIR ! ! Thank you so much everyone who donated and helped us raise the funds . She got her chair yesterday and is thrilled with it , it couldn’t be more perfect . Watch out world here she comes ! My name is Scarlett, I am 9 years old and have Dystonic Cerebral Palsy. I cannot walk and use a wheelchair all the time. I use British Sign Language to communicate because my voice doesn't work. I'm also tube fed because my swallowing is very poor. I am writing this with my mum who I sign to because although I use eye gaze at school I prefer signing. I also have just got Epilepsy. My brain is like every other child of my age, I have a good imagination, get up to mischief , love being outdoors , get sad, get happy, get silly and love doing all the things my friends do. I have asked the Drs if they can fix my arms and legs because I want to be the same as other children whose arms and legs work properly. They have told me they can't fix them and I will always be this way. I have a wheelchair that I get from the hospital but people have to push me around. This means I can't be in charge of where I want to go and also that people treat me like I am a baby. I really want a wheelchair that I can drive and go everywhere in, the woods, the park and be able to keep up with my friends ( and maybe beat them! ) in races and games. I am a great hider in hide and seek! I have tried a chair that I can drive really well and can go over everything like gravel, fields, and sand and I think would change my life and stop me from being left out. My Mum will tell you about it. Hello, My name is Maria and I am Scarlett's mum. The wheelchair that would be perfect or Scarlett is called a Trekinetic GTE This chair is life changing . It is an all-terrain chair that Scarlett can travel in when in the car, get straight out and immediately join in the fun no matter where that is .This chair would not be provided by the NHS because they only have the funds to provide one chair, which is a manual chair. The funds we raise will be used to purchase this chair which is able to grow with Scarlett and will be her chair for life ( with a few new tyres I expect! ) Scarlett has a huge disability to manage on a daily basis but she is the most determined and strong child I know. She truly is amazing.
