Hi, I’m Siân and I am trying to raise enough money to be able to buy my daughter a lightweight, folding mobility scooter so that she can get out independently and that I can also fit it in my car to take her and her daughter shopping, go for coffee, go to softplay etc. This will change her life for the better, to be able to do normal everyday things, things that we take for granted. Some of you may, or may not be aware, that my daughter has an autoimmune disease and is now in a wheelchair. The last year has been a tough time for all of us and we’ve had plenty of physical, emotional and financial burdens to face, but we never give up. My daughter is only 23 years old, and a mother of a 4 year old, which as you can imagine is a lot to manage even without being disabled. Her daughter (my granddaughter) has been living with us through the worst of my daughters illness. My daughter has accepted the fact that she is not going to get better, which is a very emotional and brave thing to do. The muscles in her bottom half have wasted and any pressure from standing and walking causes more damage to her bones, hence the constant use of a wheelchair. She is still awaiting intensive physio therapy for her top half to be able have some mobility left. As a family, all we want is for them to be able to live together, independently, with the right help and support. This is taking time to arrange and in the meantime it’s very hard for my daughter to have any independence in a wheelchair. She isn’t able to wheel herself up the hill to the shops or take her daughter to the park (I am able bodied and I can’t manage it.) Being 4ft 10 myself, I struggle to lift and push her about in the wheelchair. I know it’s a big ask, and I know people are struggling themselves, but even £1 towards the cost would help so much to give all of us a bit of normality back. Thank you
