As many know last year my granddaughter was born and immediately transferred into Maine DHHS custody due to circumstances beyond my control. We have done everything the State of Maine has asked of us. On December 5, 2024 the case worker for Maine DHHS asked if we are still willing to Adopt/ foster out beautiful granddaughter. We of course said yes. We were told they would be starting the process to transfer her to us. We have become licensed foster care providers in the State of Florida. Now the GAL is stating they want to keep her in Maine with her half siblings and not send her to us. We have obtained legal counsel to fight this, however need assistance with legal fees. The attorney wants $4,500 retainer fee along with filing fees. Unfortunately we do not have the funds available and need to try and raise the money as soon as possible to file a motion to contest my granddaughters placement. We are hoping with the help of family and friends we can obtain custody and have her transferred down to Florida.
