Hello, my name is James Merchant. I created this page to help support Alfredo Silvera. On July 8th, Alfredo suffered a brain injury. Doctors initially thought he was not going to make it. Thankfully, the amazing staff at UC Davis Medical Center have worked miracles and he is alive and conscious, but facing a difficult road to recovery. For those that don't know, Alfredo is a Registered Nurse at High Desert State Prison in Susanville. He has been a dedicated medical professional for decades. His wife of two years has just emigrated from Colombia (her visa interview was just three weeks away at the time of his emergency.) His children are 10 and 9. He is facing months of rehabilitation and time away from work. I am hoping we can raise enough money to help cover costs until his Disability Insurance begins and to help support his family during this difficult time. Alfredo has always taken pride in being the pillar of his family, the Strong Oak that will protect and support them no matter what. But he has also always said that no man should be an island. Please, help me support this amazing person. Thank you! Update July 21, 2024: Thank you to everyone that has donated! I plan on sending out personal thank yous this weekend because you have all helped so much! Alfredo's wife, Mariana, has been by his side all week. He had an infection mid-week that caused some setbacks. He is doing alright today, but he has been experiencing some memory issues. He still has to drains installed to help with the fluid on his brain. He cannot leave the ICU until the drains come out, hopefully around the beginning of August or end of July. I will be in Sacramento until Sunday or Monday. Please text me or send me voice messages at (530) [phone redacted] if you would like us to play them or read them to Alfredo. Your donations have helped pay lodging for Mariana and transportation for Alfredo's family, as well as food and groceries while we are here with him in the ICU. If you have not shared, please consider sending out this link to help us continue to raise money. We are still hoping Alfredo will be out of the ICU sooner rather than later and get back to his old self. Thank you!
