Dallas was the person everyone wanted to be friends with. Writing this as Dallas' brother, he was my hero throughout my life. Although as we got older, we didn't always see eye to eye, I knew he always had the qualities to make a change one day. Strong-minded, hardworking, and fiercely independent, to know Dallas was to love him. On January 31st, Dallas' life was completely changed as he was struck by a car while walking. Since being admitted to the hospital at the time of this post (07/11), Dallas suffered a severe case of Diffuse Axonal Injury (Severe Brain Shearing), brain stem damage, post-traumatic hydrocephalus, and many other injuries. Dallas has constant infections, including pneumonia, Clostridium difficile colitis, and MRSA. Dallas has constant neurostorming, which includes intense sweating, hand clenching until purple, and lots of groaning pains. Dallas is entirely incapacitated, in a vegetative coma state, and has been since the accident. He has had zero signs of neurological progress in the past 5 months. In our most recent meeting with the doctors, which occurred in April (nearly 3 months ago), the doctors told us that if Dallas came to any sort of consciousness, he would never even recover to the brain function of a toddler. Our hearts break for Dallas every day, knowing he will never be the person he once was. 24/7 care for the rest of his life is not what he'd want. Our mom, Terri Nakamura, has dedicated her life to helping the community. With 3 adopted kids and a preschool, life has been full of hardships. We never thought that we would have to fight so hard for the person we've all known and loved our whole life. Our mom has been fighting relentlessly without a lawyer to try and gain guardianship to end Dallas' suffering. On the other hand, his dad wants to keep Dallas in this state. Our mom Terri has been cleaning Dallas, advocating for him, and being his guardian angel from the start. As of today, the court failed us. the trial for Dallas' guardianship has been dismissed in the Kitsap County Court due to technicalities. These included the location of Dallas' residence and a missing guardian ad litem which we asked for in the previous hearing but was never appointed by the court. All we had was Dallas' appointed lawyer and a court visitor who both vouched for Dallas that more time was not worth the pain and suffering that Dallas will continue to go through. Although the court sided with the idea that Dallas should not continue to live in this state, statutes didn't even allow the trial to take place, and it was dismissed. All we want is for Dallas to be able to be at peace. For the Lord to finally call him. To get through technicalities in King County Court and let our trial go through, we are starting this LFEBridge to support a lawyer that will represent our mom Terri. We will continue to fight for Dallas regardless.
