I'm Caroline Connolly, daughter-in-law, to Donna Hendricks. Donna went in to have open heart surgery for heart valve replacement on June 6, 2024. Surgery did not go as expected, taking over 10 hours due to complications found during surgery, though the surgeons were able to fix the vavle and get her through surgery. During the first few days in the ICU she was in critical condition: her kidneys stopped working , requring dialysis; no blood flow to her right hand and both feet; and intubation twice for long periods of time. She slowly became more stable, but has since required a tracheotomy, PEG tube (tube in stomach for tube feeding), and a permant line in her chest for continued dialysis. The blood flow to her right hand and feet have caused lasting damage. She is going to require amputation to her right hand and, most likely, her left foot. Donna spent 4 weeks in ICU and is currently still a patient at UVA awaiting further surgeries. She will need to go to a rehabilitation unit afterwards as well to gain her strength back and to learn how to do common everyday tasks, again. She will most likely need some form of prosthetics and changes to her home to help make it more accessible for when she returns. Travis and I would like to thank everyone in advance for any donations. We would, also, like to thank everyone that has reached out to check in on Donna and to help out. All funds will go towards hospital bills, rehab, and prosthetics.
