Help Denise Kane Jones Kick Cancer to the Curb To Our Family and Friends: Our Aunt Denise Kane (Smith) Jones (yes, she was a Smith, and married a Jones), is the most generous, fun-loving, witty, larger-than-life character we know. If you have met her, you remember her! If you know her, you love her! She unfortunately has been struck a devastating blow; she has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. The onset of this disease was swift and has already spread. The words Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer strike fear into even the bravest of souls, but she is determined to fight this foe. And we are determined to fight for her! We simply cannot imagine a world without her in it. Denise’s friends and family know that giving, not asking, is Denise’s core nature. But friends and family, we are asking you to give now on her behalf. Please give her your kind thoughts, your fervent prayers, and if you are able, a donation to this fundraiser. There is no one who deserves it more. After a battery of tests and almost two weeks in the hospital, her medical team has developed a plan. There is certainly optimism that she can beat this beast, but it will require weeks of chemotherapy, nutrition management, pain management, home health care, and undoubtedly, a lot of, as of yet, unknown treatments and procedures. As you can imagine, the cost is tremendous. Loss of income due to an inability to work during her treatment is also a concern, and we hope this fundraiser will help ease her and her family’s minds. Here are a few facts about this lady you may or may not know: She was the eighth and final child born to Margaret and Kenneth Smith. (She says she was the last because they finally got it right!) She was born with a severe cranial-facial defect due to her soft-spot fusing in utero. At just two weeks old, she underwent major surgery on her skull to allow room for her brain to grow and develop. Grow and develop it did, as she grew into a very intelligent and precocious toddler! At two years old, she again underwent surgery to close the skull, after which she told her mother she had a “heagded ache!” More surgeries were required in her teens. Kids can be cruel, and she was teased and bullied relentlessly about her different shaped head. Despite it all, she grew into the friendliest soul you could know. Need we further proof that this gal is a fighter that can overcome any odds? Denise has worked in the medical field all her adult life. As a respiratory therapist, she surely saved many lives, and no doubt gave her patients hope and a good laugh to brighten their day. She is now Risk Manager for Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg. This is a career in which she thrives, and still has a bright future ahead of her. Denise is a University of Florida graduate, and an obnoxious Gator fan. She is a member of the philanthropic organization Thieves of San Lorenzo, having fun while raising money for various children’s charities. She and Roger (Retired Coast Guard) have been married 34 years and have two children. Marnie is a Registered Nurse, and Gregory is a Marine Lieutenant. The desire to serve was obviously passed from parents to child. Denise loves dogs, the beach, friends, and above all, her family! She is the Fun Aunt, the Giving Aunt, the Crazy Aunt, the Best Aunt! As we said, Denise’s friends and family know that giving, not asking, is Denise’s core nature. But friends and family, we are asking you to give now on her behalf. Please give her your kind thoughts, your fervent prayers, and if you are able, a donation to this fundraiser. There is no one who deserves it more.
