Hello my name is Brooke and as most of you know our precious friends Chi and Austin had their baby girl Mielle on June 14th! This was so exciting for Chi as she has wanted to be a mom for a long time but due to her lupus diagnoses she struggled with fertility. At first everything was great with mom and baby! Austin and Chi could not be more excited to begin this new journey. What should be the most amazing time of their lives took a bad turn a couple days after delivery Chi had the worst lupus flair up to date that began shutting down her organs. This caused a spiral effect of medical conditions that continued to develop eventually causing her to be placed on a ventilator. Several times doctors tried to take the ventilator out with no success as her throat would continue to close up. After many attempts they opted for the safest option of a tracheotomy at this time. Additionally she is on dialysis and they are trying to find a way to accommodate for a type of dialysis that can be done at home until they find a kidney donor! Chi and Austin are facing many challenges ahead of raising their new daughter, the long journey to recovery for Chi, and financial burdens due to supports needed to be in place for her to eventually transition home, and extended periods of time with decreased household income. Many have asked how they can help? If we could relieve some of the financial stressors right now that would give them the opportunity to just focus on Chi’s recovery and peaceful bonding with their new daughter!
