This weekend, Cathy Rigsby-Smith received an emergent phone call every mother fears: her son, Justin, is very ill, and currently in the ICU in Oregon. Justin’s doctor told her to come to see him immediately, as he is very ill. Cathy’s son Justin has sepsis and his team of doctors have identified five types of bacteria in his blood. He has also been diagnosed with pneumonia. Justin is still undergoing extensive testing. Cathy went immediately to be with her son, and it has taken all of her resources to get to his bedside. Cathy was scheduled to start back to work today (June 24th) after a month-long recovery from knee surgery, but is now facing the unknown, and is focused on caring for her son. She needs to get to and from the hospital to see her son. She needs food and a place to stay. She needs her community to alleviate some of her burden so she can take care of her boy.
