Our dear colleague and beloved friend, Ken Chow, affectionately known as BuskingKen (Youtube), has been courageously fighting a relentless battle against brain tumors for the past several years. As a dedicated healthcare worker, specialising as a Sonographer, Ken has devoted his life to caring for others, pouring his heart and soul into improving the lives of his patients. Now, as he faces his own harrowing journey, it is our solemn duty to stand by his side in his time of dire need. Ken transcends the title of a mere colleague; he embodies a radiant beacon of fortitude, empathy, and kindness within our workplace. His unwavering commitment to his profession and his tireless dedication to providing the highest quality of care have left an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals. Whether it's offering a comforting smile to patients, selflessly covering shifts for his colleagues, or going above and beyond to ensure the well-being of those under his care, Ken's influence and impact are immeasurable, resonating deeply within our hearts. Ken's journey has been fraught with sorrow and pain. In 2018, during the midst of his ultrasound training, his world was shattered by the devastating news of a 6-cm brain tumor diagnosis. Caught in the midst of his aspirations and dreams, this cruel blow left him grappling with fear and uncertainty. Faced with the daunting prospect of surgery and the looming specter of potential deficits, Ken chose to tread cautiously, opting for a watchful waiting approach. Yet, his hopes were dashed a year later, in 2019, when a follow-up scan revealed the tumour's insidious growth. Driven by desperation, he made the agonising decision to undergo surgery, clinging to the faint hope of a respite from his torment. Life appeared to regain a semblance of normalcy following the surgery, but the cruel hand of fate dealt yet another blow. In December 2024, a follow-up scan uncovered the emergence of new growth from the scar tissue, plunging Ken into the depths of despair once more. With grim determination, the doctors prescribed a grueling regimen of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, exacting a heavy toll on his frail body and spirit. Despite his valiant efforts to return to work, Ken found himself grappling with diminished hours and an ever-present heaviness in his heart, a stark reminder of the relentless battle raging within. As we traverse the bleak landscape of January 2024, another unwelcome presence looms on the horizon—a new growth, born from the scar tissue that serves as a haunting reminder of Ken's ceaseless struggles. Yet, amidst the darkness, there shines a glimmer of hope—a beacon of light fueled by the unwavering support and compassion of kind-hearted souls like you.
