My name is Tapiwa Nkhisang. I am an international student at Smith College, double majoring in Economics and Neuroscience. As I end the fall semester of my senior year, graduation is approaching faster than I am able to accept. Smith College has become my home away from home, as my parents and family are 7,000 miles away in Botswana. In the process of coming to terms with the end of my undergraduate career, I can’t begin to express my gratitude for the people who have made my journey possible in the first place; my parents. They have given me unparalleled support, encouragement, guidance, and reassurance during my time here. Without knowing much about my experience at Smith, my wonderful parents have motivated me to keep going even during hard times.Due to my parents’ inability to afford the high cost of plane tickets, I plan to buy two roundtrip tickets for them, from Botswana to Smith. It will mean the world to my parents to be able to watch me receive my diploma and know that my hard work, along with theirs, has paid off. I wish, more than anything, that my parents are able to come and recognize this milestone in my life alongside me. Depending on the time of purchase, a roundtrip ticket costs anywhere from $1,800 to $2,000. This exorbitant price has kept me from going back during breaks for most of my years at Smith. I am aiming to raise as close to $4,000 as possible so that I can surprise my parents with two pre-bought plane tickets by March. This is a large amount of money, and I appreciate every donation that will help get me closer to my goal, no matter the size. I am grateful for your time and donation or well wishes.
