July 5, 2024 changed everything in an unexpected moment. https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/pittsburgh/news/one-person-killed-in-parkway-west-shoulder-crash/ https://triblive.com/community/fox-chapel/1-dead-1-injured-in-parkway-west-crash/e7204229622e17a55bc9a78f37e60a1b/ There’s a song lyric that says, “Into every life a little rain must fall…” Matthew has had a lifetime of thunderstorms. Anyone who knows him and is reading this is thinking, “That’s an understatement. He has the worst luck!” Yet, they also know that through it all he has never so much as raised his voice. He is a rock. Matthew is a positive, even tempered, gentle soul, who is always there for everyone else. Matthew has 2 minor children at and a young adult daughter at home and is a single father. He also provides housing for his disabled mother. They are scared without his presence, as he has never left them. During Covid, Matthew lost his job and has struggled to find another. It has been a humbling experience for him to need financial help. He has been doing his very best, but bills (no credit card debt!) to pay basic necessities have become a major concern. Things were to change July 5, 2024 for the better. It was his FIRST DAY OF A NEW JOB. This was the job that would get him on his feet and secure his family’s wellbeing. He was on his way when the truck he was driving broke down on the parkway. He was able to pull over and call AAA. I was on the phone with him while he was waiting for the tow truck. We were making plans for him to borrow our vehicle so he could get to work and not risk losing this much needed opportunity. Shortly after I hung up he was hit from behind by a car going over 95 mph! The collision destroyed the truck. Heartbreakingly, the 19 year old driver was killed instantly. Matthew was taken to AGH Trauma Surgery Center with a life altering neck fracture. Upon arrival, he had no feelings in his arms and legs, and went into emergency surgery. As I type this his future mobility is unknown. Matthew is expected to be in a spinal reconstructive rehabilitation facility for possibly the next year. If you are like Matthew, you’ll be positive with us, and in prayer, that as swelling diminishes feeling will return, regardless of what we are told. THERE IS NO REMAINING SAVINGS, RETIREMENT, OR FUNDS OF ANY KIND. It has all been consumed due to his unemployment. His legal next of kin is his 20 year old son who just completed his basic training, in the Air Force, in June 2024 and is half way across the country. Here’s where you can become part of a miracle! Anyone who knows me (his sister, Lisa) knows I only have his best interest in mind. If I had unlimited funds, I wouldn’t be typing this. I’ll do as much as I can, but I am only one person. No donated amount is too small! Every penny I have access to will be used to provide for the kids. I’m not talking lavish items. I need help to buy food, toilet paper, toothpaste, electric… please help me bring something beautiful out of these ashes. Thank you for your gift and prayers!
