Bailey Swain is the daughter of two Fairmont State alumni - Emily and Matt Swain. Both Emily and Matt participated in sports at FSU; Emily on softball team and Matt in football. Both are also employed by Fairmont State. Emily is the Director of Alumni Relations and Matt  is Deputy Chief of Police with the FSU Police Department. Recently their 7 month old daughter, Bailey, was diagnosed suddenly with a retinoblastoma in her right eye which required surgery to remove the eye to rid her of cancer. Her left eye was confirmed cancer free however it was already beginning to compensate for the loss of vision in the right eye. Bailey underwent surgery on 10/28 to remove the tumor which took up 2/3 of her eye . She will be receiving a ocular implant in 4-6 weeks and has a bright road ahead of her but recovery as well.. If you love Fairmont State then you know how much Matt and Emily love the school as well - both dedicating time and energy to make it a better place for current students and alumni. You truly can not find two more selfless, hard-working, giving, loving people. I worked with Emily during my time as a student at Fairmont State and continue to keep in touch through  both the University and as parents. If anyone's child is going to kick cancer's butt it would definitely be theirs! Bailey's surgery took place at Cleveland Clinics Pediatric Oncology unit. In the coming weeks Matt and Emily will be helping Bailey through recovery before her implant surgery as well as taking care of their son, Jeffrey, who is 6. Please consider donating anything you can to help a family who has truly done so much for our home on the hill and our community!
