. My name is Mariana and I am trying to get funds to help offset my dad's cancer treatment. I left Bolivia, my home country, when I was 16 on an F-1 visa, with a scholarship to study at UWC-USA. Many doors were opened after this life-changing opportunity that allowed me to pursue my passions and share them with other people. My father, Alvaro, taught me to dream, he helped me find options to leave home and validated all my neurodivergent attitudes, dreams and ideas while growing up... Maybe because we share them and that´s one of the reasons for our deep and meaningful connection, he´s one of my best friends. Three months ago my dad was diagnosed with nasopharynx cancer, stage 3. We found the metastasis cyst first and we proceeded with all the pertinent processes to treat him. Thankfully he´s receiving treatment now through the Bolivian public health system, a mixture of chemotherapy and radiotherapy which should end in two more months. This last year has been very hard for me and my family. My sister had to use a colostomy bag and faced multiple major surgeries. Thankfully we could overcome the intestinal damage. She´s safe now and we are still working hard to pay our medical debt. While my father is being treated through the public system, the expenses are still very costly, they include some of the chemotherapeutic agents, some medical studies to monitor the impact of treatment and moving to a different city for the duration of his treatment (We are from Sucre and he´s being treated in Santa Cruz). I come from a very hardworking family, and that is what we are doing now, working to cover our medical debt and current expenses. We are also working on healing together, taking care of each other and maintaining our hope and attitude. But we need a little help. The money funded will be used to partially cover the expenses of my dad´s treatment, while we pay our debt and some of the expenses too. If we manage to have some money left from this fundraiser, every cent will be donated to the children cancer hospital of Sucre. And I promise to give back, probably not to you... but with great empathy, I am committed now to the fight against cancer and will always support this cause.
