June 22nd, 2024 Alexander was a healthy 15-year-old at the pool with his friends when he sat down and was not able to feel or move his legs. After being rushed to the hospital they found out the next day that Alexander has Transverse Myelitis. What does this mean? Essentially, Alexander has swelling in his spine from t 10 down and was paralyzed from his belly button down. About two weeks later we found out that the swelling goes completely into his spinal nerves, which will cause further health challenges. Over the last month, Alexander has undergone extensive treatments including plasma donations, the cleaning of his blood and then transfusion back into him, as well as high-dose steroids. Transverse Myelitis is a horrendous disease and there is no telling if or when Alexander may recover. What we do know? Alexander will need special wheelchairs and renovations to his house. We are applying for every grant possible, but anyone that has ever dealt with something similar knows the process is long and slow. Alexander's parents cannot take him out of the hospital until a few key renovations are done (at both his mom's and his dad's houses). This is going to be a marathon for this entire family. Their entire lives have changed focus. With other health challenges in the family, as well as two other young kids at home, trying to balance home and hospital life has been hard. We appreciate any support you can give. We know this family would give the shirt off their back for anyone around them and hope to find the support they need now as well.
