I am sorry for asking a lot of favors. Thank you. It's a very long story, but I'll try to make it short. Starting in 2019, I got a job and worked hard. I took overtime and weekend work with goals to renovate our little house that we love. Everything is going well. In January 2024, with the money I saved, we started the renovation. Unfortunately, when the renovation was almost done, our relatives, especially my aunts and uncles, started bringing up issues on the land and bringing up the fact that we don't have any legal documents for ownership of the land where our house is located. Everything is there; my mom's livelihood is there, as she was trying to grow some crops and vegetables there also. To save our home, my family borrowed money from multiple informal lenders since we needed a large sum, but we cannot take a loan from the bank. Back then, we had to spend more than $20k to cover land surveys, measurements, back and forth with the lawyer, and other requirements that we needed to submit to the land bank for the land title. We were able to submit the requirements, and now we are waiting for the mother title to be ours. We had no idea that it would take a significantly large amount; all we are thinking is that we need to save our home. In mid-January 2024, we started having trouble paying the debts. I am the only one working for my mom and sister, and my mom cannot use her old livelihood while the process of land transfer is ongoing, so it was harder. Every day we get calls; some were threats because we were not able to pay. I developed anxiety and was depressed, but I was not able to tell anyone, not even my mom. I did not want her to worry more. I stopped interacting with people because we were ignored by most of irl friends. Some even gossiped about us when we tried borrowing money from them. But of course, there are still good friends who tried to help us, even a little. In March 2024, I realized I should do something else to help ease our situation. It was shameless to do, but I asked left and right and tried to find institutions that could help us, but no one could really help. I was so stressed because, as the day passes, the penalties and fees are coming. In May 2024, I got sick. I developed an ovarian cyst. The stress manifested in my body. My health card did not cover the surgery, and we had no money because, at that time, it was already hard for us to make ends meet. My mom had to borrow money again to pay the hospital bill. Thankfully, there are still some who have mercy because it is a medical problem. I was so sad because it added to our debt, but I cannot do anything. I have a job, but my salary is just enough, and most of the time, it is lacking for our monthly expenses and bills. We started fundraising in late March, but it's not really doing well. Currently, we still have nine existing debts from different informal lenders and people, summing up to around ~$40k already. Yes, it has already reached that level, but our goal amount is just half of that because those are the priorities and the others can be pushed back, and maybe we can manage it on our own. It's hard to believe, but I guess it's the downside because those were from informal lenders with much higher interest. I consulted, and the online l*ans that we had before were said to be il*egal and could be ignored. Our debt was actually more than that, but we were able to pay for the older debts with the help of previous donations. We are trying to pay it one at a time using the monetary help that we are getting. Since we have debts from different people, different percentages of penalties are being charged every late month, and it just keeps on growing every month that we are not able to pay. Until now, we have been getting calls every day. I know it's hard to give your trust to someone online, especially because this is not like other fundraisers raising money for medical emergencies or calamities, but we are knocking on your generous hearts to please consider helping us if you can spare any amount. All the funds collected will be used to pay our debts and help us recover our lives. I am just hoping to have a space to breathe as the breadwinner of the family.
