This LFEBridge has been organized on behalf of our beloved friend Heather Titmus, her husband Ryan, and their 4 children. In June, Heather’s world was upended when she was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer after months of debilitating abdominal pain. Her first surgery, on Wednesday, July 26, 2024, went from a planned 4 hours to 12 hours with a blood transfusion. They moved her back to the ICU on a vent to allow her to stabilize before removing more cancer. Thursday's surgery was 5 hours long. Between the two surgeries, they removed her spleen, stomach (connecting the esophagus directly to the small intestine), part of the bladder, part of the large intestine and her ovaries. They removed masses from the diaphragm, mesentery, small intestine, abdominal wall and pelvic floor. She stayed on the vent until Friday afternoon. She is still in the ICU and will be in the hospital for at least a few more days. She is pressing her pain button as little as possible so she can keep her smile on for visitors because that's who she is. Heather is a loving wife and mom of 4, 3 of whom are still at home. She is an amazing friend, the first to volunteer if someone is in need. Her smile is infectious. She has faithfully served her community for decades in various capacities both as a unit secretary at Saint Mary’s Emergency Department and more recently as a 911 Dispatcher for the Kent County Sheriff’s Department where she is the first point of contact for people in crisis. She is loved by SO many, the hospital had to make her name undiscoverable so she would not have too many visitors. We humbly ask for assistance to help with living expenses and medical costs the family will incur as she faces a very long road ahead. After this surgery and chemotherapy, she will very likely need treatment at another healthcare system due to the nature of her cancer. Treatments and travel out of state are often not well covered by insurance. Ryan has taken a leave of absence from work to care for Heather as she recovers. This money goes directly to Heather and Ryan to replace lost wages, health care costs, medications and travel. We understand not everyone is in a position to donate and would sincerely appreciate anyone who can share this LFEBridge with others. Thank you so much for your consideration. We will provide updates occasionally to let you know how they are doing.
