Hi all, My name is Katie and I’ve set up this fundraiser to try to raise some much needed funds for my sister and her partner (Emma Hart & Ron Klimek). My sister gave birth to little Daisy on the 19th June 2024 via a C-section. All seemed to be well. But after 6 hours in recovery Daisy was offered a new trial test that a nurse brought round. My sister and her partner agreed and the rest that followed was and has been a whirlwind. She had low oxygen levels and was whisked to NICU. Within hours she was blue lighted to Great Ormond Street as they had found abnormalities with her heart. She stayed in NICU (Flamingo ward) of Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) while they worked on her to increase her oxygen levels, and work out what exactly was happening with her heart. She’s been diagnosed with the following Congenital Heart Conditions: TGA (where the arteries are going the wrong way) Faulty heart valves 2 holes in the heart Tissue on her heart where it shouldn’t be. She is now being monitored in a ward at GOSH while they wait to do open heart surgery. The surgeon wants her to be stronger and be bigger/heavier before doing the operation. So they’ve currently said 6 weeks until the op. The plans were initially to move her back to Lister Hospital so that my sister and her partner could be close to home and get some recovery themselves. But unfortunately as it currently stands her breathing has become fast and they’re not happy with her weight. So the decision has been made that for now she can’t be moved anywhere. They need to monitor her at GOSH. Whether they stay there or eventually get moved to Lister while they wait both, my sister and her partner are looking at at least around 6 weeks of staying in hospital with her, then her operation + recovery + maybe another operation if the surgeon can’t do it all in the first surgery. There is a long road ahead but for now they are just solely focused on Daisy. They’ve not left her side since she was born aside from little trips outside for fresh air or for food, when family were able to relieve them and sit with Daisy. They’ve basically been in London since she was born and sleeping in the ward room with Daisy every night. Many families have to go through this and it’s heartbreaking. Thankfully the holes in her heart actually saved her life they were told at Lister before being sent to GOSH. I think from memory it was to do with the arteries that were going the wrong way and the hole or holes actually prevented it from being fatal. So she was on medication to keep the hole open initially. Now one of the holes has closed on its own but she still has another hole and all the other conditions. They’ve been told she is a complex case as where they would normally operate to correct the arteries is where there is tissue that shouldn’t be there. The hardest thing is feeling helpless and not being able to support them so I decided to set Up this fundraiser. I know times are hard and there are lots of people and causes in need so there is absolutely no pressure to donate. I just wanted to set this up incase anyone was in a situation to help and wanted to. And for people who know them and wanted to help them but weren’t sure how. My sister was a full time carer for my grandad and lost her job in February as our grandad sadly died. Her partner works with tarmac. He initially had 7 unpaid days booked ready for when baby was born but obviously things didn’t go as planned and he hasn’t gone back. He has been by Daisy’s side and at the hospital from the moment she was born. My sister also. The day after her c-section she wanted to be with Daisy and her partner at GOSH and so only spent 1 night recovering at lister before joining Daisy and Ron at GOSH the next day. Daisy has some good days but then has some more difficult days, like as I type this she is currently being checked for an infection as has been floppy and tired all day (more then normal) :( I wanted to set up a fundraiser so they could have a little less to worry about. Any money raised will go to them and whatever they need at this time; Food Possible taxis Possible future accommodation for one of them (on their ward only 1 parent is allowed to stay the night at a time but currently they are thankfully allowing both Ronnie and Emma to stay due to my sister still needing help from Ronnie after her C-section). Any help, even just a share or comment of encouragement is so greatly appreciated. And just by reading this you’ve made such a difference to us at this time My overall hope is that they feel a little less alone and know there are people out here (even though far away) thinking of them. If you’re the praying kind, prayers are also warmly welcome and much appreciated. If you are able and want to donate, no amount is too small. Love Katie xox p.s I’ll try to update periodically with how she is doing or if we get an update
