Hi, my name is Jenny Mitchell and I am fundraising for my nephew Herald (Howie) Black. Howie (14 months old) is the son of my brother Jesse Black and Jenn Dangel. Howie was diagnosed with Pulmonary Stenosis and Supravalvular Arortic. Howie was scheduled to go in on July 10th for a heart cath to open the pulmonary valve. However, there were SERIOUS complications. The procedure was not able to be done. And he would now require full open-heart surgery. On July 13th Howie was put on full life support. He had gotten a terrible lung infection that is causing his pressure to rise but his oxygen to drop. It was beyond scary. He remained on the ECHMO machine until the doctor's deciding to perform his open heart surgery on Tuesday, July 18th. The tough little guy was in surgery for 11.5 hours. There were a few hiccups along the way with his bleeding and such. But as far as his heart the surgery was great. Howie remained on the ECHMO machine after his surgery. They went in on Friday July 21st to check out his heart and clear some of the packing. When he returned to his room he was no longer on ECHMO, and his little heart is beating on its own!! Which is wonderful. Although we have all learned in this process, it seems with every couple of steps you take forward, you take a few back. Howie's doctors and surgeons just keep stressing about how sick his lungs are now. And they are really struggling. That has gotten us up today. Jesse and Jenn have been lucky enough to be able to stay at the hospital with their little guy. Which is so nice if they need anything or need to get to him in a hurry they are right there. Neither Jesse nor Jenn have been able to work at all since Howie went into the hospital on July 10th. I can not imagine the stress they are going through not only having their little guy in the hospital but also the thoughts of the medical bills that will follow. Right now no one is sure just how long Howie is going to be in there. He is still heavily sedated trying to clear up his lungs and get his O2 higher. I know any donations that are raised for Howie and his family would be extremely helpful. Jesse and Jenn have been so grateful for the prayers from everyone and the donations they have already received.
