Haedyn is a 20 year old mother of 3 beautiful girls; Tayah, age 4, Mariah, 18 months, and Erica who was born September 4th.In early August, Haedyn began experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath. She was about 23 weeks pregnant and initially dismissed it as heartburn but after it continued a couple of days, she went to the ER to have it checked. In a span of 12 days, she went to the ER 3 times, her OB, and made multiple phone calls to her doctor about the pain and being unable to breathe. On August 19th, she was seen in the ER where she was diagnosed with pneumonia and admitted. She was 23 weeks pregnant at the time. On August 21st she was admitted to the ICU, sedated, and placed on a ventilator. Her pneumonia had become septic and ultimately turned into Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). ARDS is a life threatening medical condition that prevents enough oxygen from getting to the lungs and into the blood. It can cause lung damage, permanent scarring of the lungs, and organ failure. Haedyn's condition was further complicated by the fact she was pregnant and they ultimately had to treat her with medications and procedures they would typically never use during pregnancy in order to save her life. After being in ICU about a week, the doctors advised Haedyn would probably not be able to recover as long as her body was trying to carry the baby and heal. Many discussions occurred about the best time to take the baby and daily discussions occurred as to whether or not she was stable enough that day to survive a procedure. On September 4th, God took care of any decision making and Haedyn's water broke on its own. At 2:47 pm, Erica Leigh made her grand entrance weighing 2 lbs. The doctors have been amazed at how healthy she is and how little medical intervention she has required given how critically ill her mommy has been. Haedyn has not seen her two oldest girls for over two months now and she has never physically seen or held baby Erica. As of October 26, there is nothing more that can be done for Haedyn and she is dying. She is already showing several signs of death and the medical can't ignore them. They have seen the signs but have wanted it to not be true. Molly told me they as nurses saw this but are so emotionally involved with Haedyn, Leigh and our family; they would not accept it. Molly said they can't ignore this anymore and need to start preparing Leigh and working with our family. Haedyn's body is shutting down. They are not and won't give up hope but in preparation for what has occurred and for the road ahead we have created this site to help support Rhonda and her Niece and family. Thank you for your generosity and support. Love and God Bless, Rhonda's Friends and Family
