Hello, my name is Joshua and I live in the Columbus, Ohio area. I was hurt really bad coming out of work recently. I was working as a Juvenile Correctional Officer and had a really bad migraine and needed to go home. When I was leaving work and out in the parking lot, I fell on Black Ice. I fell onto my back/right side and was knocked out unconscious. I have no idea how long I was out for, but I woke up to one of my coworkers nudging me and asking if I was OK. When I figured out what had happened, I was laying with my head on the black ice and the small of my back was on the corner of the sidewalk. There was a 8” drop between the sidewalk and the asphalt. I was in a lot of pain not just in my back, but all over my body. I tried to file a workers comp (BWC), but was denied due to not actively on the clock. Over the next few days, the pain got worse. I saw several specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists and neurologist physicians. I had pretty much had every scan, X-Rays, CAT and MRI’s. Over the next few months the pain just kept getting worse, and continued to see PT’s and OT’s. While out one day after a PT appointment, I fell again due to my instability…..but this time on my left side! At that point I was rushed into the emergency room, and shortly thereafter it was determined that I would have to have emergency surgery. I lost my job due to my absences…..not to mention that this was my dream job because I absolutely love helping people. Working in a Juvenile Correctional Facility was rewarding……I was helping kids so they could get out and have a crime free life! I absolutely loved going into work each day……every day was different. I am hoping one day I can return to that career, but right now I have a long road ahead of me. This surgery and all the complications have taken a toll on my life not just in a physical way, but also a financial way. I have medical bills stacking up, I’m about to lose my place to live and need any help I can. I’m not a person that normally asks for help, but I REALLY need it this time! Hopefully this story will touch the hearts of many, and I can get a little help that I so desperately need. Anything helps, and I’m grateful for anyone that reads this and finds it in their heart to donate. The funds that are donated will be used for the mountain of medical bills and my back rent and future rent to keep a roof over my head. I will be updating this story as much as I can with any updates that I get on my progress. Thank you and God Bless, Joshua
