On July 1st 2013, our father found our mom having a seizure in the middle of the night. This had never happened before and was the start to a very long journey. We found out that Maria had a brain tumor, and although it was benign, it was serious. We found out that the tumor was aggressive and will likely grow back in the same place. After countless appointments, traveling to the city and back, there was finally a date set for early February/14 to have the tumor removed.Anyone who has had a child knows what it's like to take care of one. To feed them, bathe them, watch over them and make sure they're okay every minute of the day, and help fight off the nightmares. Now imagine that that is your mother. Sick in bed and recovering. She's stubborn that's for sure and wants nothing more than to be better right now, but you have to remind her that it's okay and that these things take time. So after months of rehabilitation, she was back to normal and we celebrated. February/15 came around and we hosted a fundraising event for Grey Matters; a new fundraiser that my mother had put together to bring awareness to brain tumors and donate the money to Toronto Western Hospital where her journey lay. After a routine MRI check up, the results we received were less than impressive. The tumor has returned and this time, Maria will be undergoing radiation and chemotherapy in hopes of killing it. It might be tough, but we all know that she's stronger! This time around, we just need a little bit more support. Please help us help our mother. The unconditional love and support we recieved the first time was so amazing and we are truly thankful. The money we hope to raise will be going towards paying for her treatment, medical bills and medication. With deepest love and gratitude,Kimberlie, John & Venice Benevides
