Our baby sister, Grace Lain, was admitted into the hospital this past Saturday, October 17, 2015. She was rushed in at 9am and was diagnosed around noon with Spinal Meningitis; her body went into a coma state. The doctors at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital started treatment right away. As of that night we didn't know how her body was going to react to the antibiotics, the nurses were basicaly giving us a 50/50 shot. With faith, hope, and a lot of HAPPY thoughts she started to open her eyes on Sunday - the medicine seemed to be working! She spent 3 days in ICU, and so far 4 days in inpatient treatment to recieve intravenous antibiotics as well other meds to eliminate the pain her body was/is going through. She has been undergoing physical therapy while in the hospital as this infection could have limited her mobility. As everyday passes, Grace is getting better and better. Talking more, sleeping less, and even walking. This diagnosis could have been a lot worse. Thankfully Grace is so strong and she has a great support system. The hospital is said to be releasing her this Saturday, October 24th, but the struggle is still not over! Grace will still need weeks of IV/Oral antibiotics, physical therapy, and rest to fully recover. We still are not sure as to how long she will be out of work and her medical bills are not going to be pretty. Grace has not asked for much help since she moved up to Alaska 6 years ago. I want everyone to know that she is THE BEST BABY SISTER, (and Amandas only baby sister [tears]) and she deserves some help. This girl would help anyone with anything, she believes that everyone deserves a chance. With hope EVERYTHING is POSSIBLE. Andrea, Katie, Brittney, and I would all like to give a shout out to eveyone that is taking care of Grace right now. We know that she has amazing friends up in Alaska. And it hurts a lot that we couldn't be there when she opened her eyes. The other day Grace brought me to tears when she asked if I remembered when she broke her collar bone. I said yes, Katie and I rushed to the hospital, and were right there for you. So thank you to all that are near and far. Thank you for the calls, the notes, the balloons, the I love you's. They have not gone unseen, and Grace is truely loved.
