Hello, my name is Daniel Lozano, and as many of you may already know, my sister and her family have been going through some difficult times. My beautiful sister Annie Gonzalez has had many unfortunate medical issues this past year. It all began when she started feeling pain in February of 2024. Not knowing what it was, she went in and out of the hospital for many months. It wasn't until November 2024 that they figured it out and she had to undergo intense surgery due to a severe case of Diverticulitis. She had to get 12 inches of her intestine removed. Due to the nature of the surgery a colostomy bag was put in. Clearly she had to take months off of work to heal. After her first surgery, and a reversal surgery for the colostomy bag, she had to finally try to start healing while grieving the loss of our father in December. These were trial times to say the least. Annie had finally gotten the okay to go back to work, but it was for only for a couple days. She was in excruciating pain again. She went back to the doctors thinking her diverticulitis was flaring up, but soon found out she had an ovarian cyst the size of a lime. Which over the next couple weeks grew to the size of a lemon, and eventually a grapefruit. After going into the ER multiple times, being admitted to the hospital, getting turned away from doctors who were skeptical about taking on her case; She finally found a hospital and doctor that would take her. She was transferred to USC Arcadia where she had a rigorous 5 hour surgery where doctors had to remove the grapefruit sized cyst, remove her right ovary, and cut away some of her intestine that had attached to the cyst. This was a MAJOR surgery to say the least. Shorty after this surgery she had some considerable complications. High heart rate, low blood pressure, and later developing pneumonia, causing her lung to collapse . Things were not looking good for my sister. Her open wound had gotten infected on top of everything. Physically, Mentally, and Emotionally it was a lot for her and Raul to deal with. Thankfully she had a great team of Doctors, Nurses and a Husband that were advocating for her. Working together with the medical Team Raul fought to keep his wife on the right path to heal. He was staying with her day and night. Took weeks off of work, many of them that were not paid. Thank God and a newly appointed Angel, our Dad, Annie started to make positive and strong strides to healing. She was getting better. Her lungs were stronger, no more pneumonia, her wound started to heal, and they gave her the okay to start a liquid diet. Things were looking better, but once my sister started eating they noticed a leak from her wound. After a CtScan they realized she had a fistula causing her yet another set back. Doctors had said she would need another surgery to repair the hole, but after multiple opinions, the team decided to let the fistula heal on its own. Which was a blessing, we did not want her to undergo another surgery so close to the other. After yet another week in the hospital her fistula began to heal. She was later transferred to a long care facility where they can keep and eye on her wound and get her to a better place where she can finally go home. After being in the hospital and long care facility for close to 3 months, Annie was finally released. She began healing. Walking on her own now, and her wound was looking great. We thought that was the last of it. Only a week ago she started feeling some more pain. Annie went back into the ER where they did another CtScan but the doctors only saw inflammation which they said was to be expected after her surgery. She was sent home. Later they realized she might have appendicitis, causing this new pain. They had her go back to the ER where they rushed her into yet another surgery on Friday 8/5. She was in surgery for four hours. Her appendix had already burst, and her large and smaller intestines were tangled. It was a blessing in disguise that they needed to address these issues. She is doing good, vitals and blood work are where they need to be and what is expected post surgery. She has a long road to recovery. After 5 surgeries within the last 8 months is a lot for one person. After all this, I’m writing because both Annie and Raul, have been out of work for months. My sister was in the hospital for two and half months and Raul never left her side. They need help paying for bills that have been racking up. Their four children will be going back to school soon and those expenses can add up. I reach out if you can please help my sister and her family out. She still has yet another long road to recovery, and won’t be able to go back to work anytime soon. If you can any donation would be greatly appreciated. My sister has done so much good for our community, for her friends and family. She is always the first person to extend a hand. Now is the time when her community can show their appreciation and extend out our hands for Annie. Thank you and God bless
