My sister Lisa Koenig had shingles in 2007. Unfortunately, the shingles entered her left eye leaving a large scar on her left cornea. The scar is in the center of the cornea which causes major vision loss in that eye along with headaches, sensitivity to light, blurred vision, pain and a watery eye. This permanent damage affects her every day life. There are days she cannot see to drive which results in her having to to call off work. Some days she has stayed in a dark room all day and others has to wear sunglasses indoors. While treatments are limited, she has tried special contact lenses and prescribed eye drops but the sadly damage is permanent. The last resort is a cornea transplant. The surgery will remove the entire thickness of the damaged cornea and replace it with healthy donor tissue. A corneal transplant is a sight-saving surgery that allows a patient with eyesight compromised by cornea damage, to have their vision restored. Recovery time is up to one year. The total cost of the procedure is $10,575 with $8,800 being out-of-pocket. This amount must be paid in full one day prior to surgery or it will be postponed until the funds are secured. At 52, Lisa is single mom of three adult children and works full time and just wants her life back. Any help you can provide will be used directly to cover the expenses of her cornea transplant. Thank you for your consideration and donation and may God bless you!
