There are few people in this life that many of us believe in more than Sharad and Evy Yadav: thoughtful, generous, lovely, and kind. They have regularly opened and offered their lives to us and now they need us! What an amazing gift that is, because it means that those of us who have been heard and helped by them can offer our own love and gratitude back to them in real and tangible ways. Here’s a quick run-down of the need. Since being laid off earlier this year Sharad and Evy have been through a lot of challenging transitions. After over two decades in pastoral ministry, Sharad returned to grad school full-time to pursue a new calling as a therapist and is just beginning his internship phase seeing clients. Evy has started a business cleaning houses. They have both been working hard to make ends meet, but with Sharad’s severance running out in September and the costs of school looming, they will very soon be unable to afford their most basic living costs. In the meantime, their oldest daughter suffers from long Covid, their middle son is trying to attend Portland State University, their youngest needs oral surgery, and one of their cars was recently pronounced dead (funeral pending). Sharad has secured a part-time job to supplement his counseling work, but it does not start until January. To make it until then, they will have to live through the country song of those circumstances along with the cost of a mortgage, utilities, and groceries, with their income having shrunk to less than half of what they were making before Sharad was laid off. Close family and friends have stepped up to help, but the need is just too big. There are more details, of course, but that’s not what’s most important. What’s important is that we open our lives toward Sharad and Evy the same way that they so generously have opened theirs to us (Galatians 6:2). Sharad’s twin brother and I invite you to do that in two ways: 1) pray for Sharad and Evy as they navigate the challenging terrain that they find themselves in. Let them know that you are thinking about them or, better yet, tell them how much you love them and how much they mean to you. 2) offer your love and prayers in a material way by supporting them with a financial gift to help them make it to January, when Sharad’s new spiritual direction job begins. Join us as we give to the Yadavs in the same way that we have so generously received. Sincerely, Pastor Jon Lemmond & Dr. Sameer Yadav
